in 2024, to help participants and organizers get names to read, we developed a new tool with the help of artificial intelligence. It allowed you to get names via Telegram or via e-mail. Currently, the bot is on pause. You can read about the way it functioned during “Returning the Names” below.
The bot randomly retrieved the requested number of names of executed people from a pre-prepared sample, which consists of 120 thousand records from the Open List database.
Below are some notes on how the bot functioned.
- The names were picked at random
One would get a specific number of randomly picked names from our sample of 120 thousand records upon their request. This tool did not allow filtering by any characteristic. To find names of people from specific categories (filtering by nationality, for example), the name databases themselves were used. - A name was only picked once
Once someone had received a name card, the program eliminated the entry from the queue. No one else would receive that card. This rule has been put in place for us to know which names have been read and which ones have not. - The possibility of error
The AI model was not perfect either: it may not have been able to cope with language specificities, abbreviations, and geography. Therefore, while training our model, we counted on you too: we asked you to correct any mistakes you would see. You could write to us, or fix the problem within the database itself by registering on their website. - The names were given in Russian
If someone wanted to get names in a different language, they would have to translate them themselves.
Getting the names via e-mail
One could also get names to be read via email. We were ready to provide you with a list of names for a particular number of participants. Those lists would be sent to the organizers via e-mail.
