Returning the names in 2023
For the second year, Returning the Names takes place in the context of a full-scale war waged by Russia against Ukraine. Ukraine defends not only its independence, but also a system of values that is absolutely important for us, at the center of which are freedom and human rights.
Against the backdrop of mass killings and arrests wherever they occur, the reminder of the cost of each individual life is felt especially acutely.
Returning the Names will take place on October 29 in many cities around the world – join a reading near you. The list of places where there are already organizers of the action is constantly updated in the Cities 2023 section. The Returning the Names campaign takes place in many cities around the world. On this day, thousands of people line up and, taking turns, read aloud the names of those executed by the Soviet regime.
We coordinate events in different countries, film and edit readings, prepare captions in several languages, put together a twelve-hour broadcast – and we need your support.
Today, when propaganda in Russia, also working in many other countries, is carefully trying to erase and control the memory of terror in order to justify modern repression and war crimes, it is more important than ever to carry out this action.
